A very sorely missed man, dad & grandad. He was a gentleman through and through, always put his family first. A working man all of his days, he was diagnosed with diabetes in 1981 still he worked hard to provide for his family sometimes working over 16 hrs per day as either a coach driver or an HGV mechanic / HGV recovery. He and his family moved to Scotland in 1991 after the death of his own father.
Again he worked crazy hours to give his family a good life until he was thought to have had a stroke in 1997, but they instead found out he had Multiple Sclerosis, although only diagnosed in '97 the doctors estimated he had had it since the early 80's.
Almost immediately he was wheelchair bound and had lost the use of his limbs due to a combination of the stroke and his M.S, still he tried to bring a smile to everyone's face with his jokes and some of his work stories and memories of trips to Littlehampton and Bushy park.
He eventually decided to stay in the nursing home he had frequented for respite care. The better part of the family, along with dad, decided a move to Motherwell was in order, change of scenery and that!
Unfortunately it was in this home where dad died on a friday morning, only the night before had Kelly visited, later commenting on how well he looked. Mark was away through his long distance HGV driving job and had woke up at 0500 as did Kelly and Andrew, another son, so we think this is when dad took a turn for the worst. I had the sad task of telling Mark over the phone, but not getting the words out for the tears Mark knew what had happened.
Again a sorely missed man who can and never will be replaced......
